Heavenward Leaves and Hearts

Some tree leaves are upside down,
Reaching for the needed rain.
This somehow speaks to me of prayer --
Great thirst revealed so plain.

I've seen it happen during years
When ground became so dry.
That undergirdings of the leaves
Turned heavenward -- t'ward sky.

And, Heavenward should we bare hearts --
Heavenward, t'ward GOD of Grace,
Confessing need and total dependence
Upon GOD present every place!

Heart-Lifting Showers

My heart lifts at misty rain
Now falling all around
And softly giving drink
To dry and thirsting ground.

LORD, my heart lifts as I stand
And hear the comfort sound
Of the raindrops on the trees
Dripping, dripping down.

Send O send the latter rains,
In mercy, LORD, as well.
Of Thy lovingkindnesses --
We're greatly blest to tell.

With heart glad because of THEE
Of such tender loving care,
I offer thanks unto THEE
For heart-lifting showers here!

Butterfly Columbine

There, afloat - - a yellow columbine
Like an exotic, lovely butterfly --
It's stem but a delicate line below,
Supporting its dance for passers by.

It's there beneath the edge of trees;
Where shade touches undergrowth.
When I first spied the blossom,
A butterfly - - I near' supposed.

But, this one flies not away.
It gently sways in the breeze.
I stand and stare, absorbing it.
Delightful - - things like these!

Poet's Work

Looping a phrase and twisting it back;
Arranging sentences in a stack;
Cohesion lacking, he begins again --
This, the work of poetic man.

Playing with words and thought until
He's done his best with what skill,
At penning time, he is blessed;
Then, giving GOD praise, he rests.

Though his heartfelt thoughts and words
Are written that others may observe,
His work may end on lonely shelf,
As dead as the dust wherein it's left.

Our Little Treasures

They've grungy feet and runny noses,
Lopsided smiles, hands with posies,
Peanut butter-jelly stains on shirts,
Baggy pant seats covered in dirt,

Socks with cracker crumbs inground,
One shoe's here, the other not found,
Hair askew -- curly or straight,
Toys too scattered for any more play,

Eyes that droop and nodding heads.
Time for a bath and rest in bed!
So gently lay our treasures down ---
Shhh! they're sleeping -- don't make a sound!

A Mother's Heart

Some hate changing dirty diapers.
I'll quickly change my little love.
Some hate the sound of babies crying;
I'll cuddle mine and croon to hush.

Some think babies to be a bother.
Tell, what better way to spend time
Than with an infant who adores me?
I gladly tend this child of mine.

Some simply don't value their children.
How lovely the voices, hands and feet,
And bright eyes so full of interest
Of the babes I'm blessed to meet!

Some may live for self importance.
With all my heart, O let me live
With loving kindness, as did Jesus --
To little ones, devoted attention, give!

Seeking

Friend, what are you seeking
Along life's dreary way?
Do you need consolation,
With those who often pray?

Are you one of Christ's beloved,
Feeling to be at home,
Where there is sweet communion,
Where no one stands alone?

Obey the Lord's blest teachings;
Be instant in your prayer,
Putting needs of others first.
The Comforter is near!

A Garden Scene

We worked near the garden fence --
Abby and I, that is,
Planting beans to vine and twine --
Enjoyable occupation, this.

The garden, plowed and tilled so soft,
Invited Joseph to explore.
He walked barefoot through the plot;
Then, crissed and crossed it o'er.

His feet went deep into the soil;
At times he called to Abby -- "help!"
She laughed and asked -- "is it too deep?"
Playing with soil, he busied himself.

What a difference the little ones make
In gardens with promise of green.
Gardening delights little children
And many old folks like me.

GOD's Word Wields the Power of Life

GOD never fails. HIS Word is sure --
It cannot return to HIM void,
But accomplishes all HE wills it to do --
With almighty power it's employed!

How, comprehend the value of His Word?
It's certain, we own not the key to life.
Only GOD can speak to raging storms --
" Be still" -- and make them quiet.

Aged Abraham and Sarah were given
Isaac, their promised son of old;
The Israelites were given freedom
From Egypt's bondage -- as GOD foretold.

Water was turned into wine by Jesus.
At His words, a lame man took up his bed and walked.
Jesus healed lepers, gave a blind man sight.
These things weren't done by impotent talk.

GOD speaks -- His will is done!
By His Word, there is light;
And, in His Word is all our Hope.
Consider -- His Word wields the power of life!

By the mercies of God,

Gus's Bumblebees

Gus wants to catch one -- he really does!
He leaps in air and snaps away.
As bumblebees come near to him,
He simply won't "sit still" or "stay".

That sassy Australian Shepherd
May have to learn this for himself --
If he succeeds in catching a bumble
Type of a bee, O how he'll yelp!

The bumblebees are happy here,
Buzzing from blossom to bloom.
Their legs heavy with yellow pollen,
Off with treasure, they zoom.

Ah, young Gus, you little imp!
You must learn where lies good prey.
Let it be toys; or, play with the dogs.
From bumblebees, just stay away!

Anybody know what treatment to use if a dog chomps a bumblebee?
Purrhaphts, thum ointmenth fur a sthungh tungh? :)

GOD Hears

Have you had it happen to you,
When you've prayed for someone dear --
Fervently, perhaps many times --
That not a hint of an answer you'd hear.

Then, has that someone told you,
"I felt someone was praying last night --
It seemed GOD's Spirit was with me."
Praise to HIM WHO makes things right!

GOD hears our prayers -- this confirms it!
We're so blessed to know HE cares!
What encouragement to faithfully pray,
Knowing, our hearts' desires HE hears!

By the mercies of God,
