For Our Friends

Comfort, as comes from no other,
We pray for the bereaved --
Of the Lord closer-than-a-brother;
Of HIM WHO is our Peace;
Of HIM WHO truly understands
The greatest possible pain.
May HE heal your broken hearts
And lift your spirits again.

By the mercies of God,

Where Humble Souls Meet

Is it when humble ones worship GOD,
Forgetting this world a while,
GOD's Spirit doth their hearts so greet
And warm by heavenly smile?

Is it where praise is rightly given
To HIM WHO calms the sea,
To CREATOR of heavens and earth,
Of mountains, valleys, and trees?

Surely, surely, the humble feel
To be greatly blessed of GOD!
Surely, surely, they know HIS smiles,
When HE comforts with HIS WORD!

By the mercies of God,

O Prideful Man

O man of high accomplishments
Who walks with arch-ed brow,
You really think you're superior?
Tell us, Prideful, do you now?

Tell, do you disdain to see
Those with problems of body or mind?
Does annoyance sweep over you
If they pass before your sight?

Do you feel that you've achieved
Your rank in life on your own?
Is your brain of your own making?
Do you live because of what you've done?

Did you author thinking? -- did you now?
A self-made man? -- O are you now?
Power to keep all your holdings
And more -- really! have you now?

A guarantee you'll never fail,
Never falter, never be ill,
Never lose mental state of mind --
Can you, such great order, fulfill?

Consider well your healthy state;
And, be thankful for your mind.
GOD authored life and breath;
For every movement, HIS strength we find.

Do you truly feel perfect in every way?
O consider how it is you've come
To such exalted view of yourself!
Then, look higher, higher -- far beyond!

By the mercies of God,

Say Nothing at All

"If you can't speak well of someone,
Say nothing at all" -- we were told --
Great advice, and a large order;
How hard, the tongue, to control!

Let us "bite our tongues" if we must!
Better is pain than gossip's sword.
Small things, told indiscreetly,
Multiply -- destructive words.

Words can wound and tear down;
Words spoken can't be erased.
Let our speech be unto good --
Be our conversation chaste!

We ought to build up, not tear down.
For tattlers, yield no welcoming ear.
Silence is better than foolish words.
From backbiting, child, stand clear.

Envy Not the Unbeliever

He who hates the LORD's commands
Thinks to walk how e'er he please,
Enjoying what pleasure he finds
In this world before he leaves.

"This is my life -- it's mine to rule"
Is the mindset, he walks by.
Self absorbed, he goes along,
Lacking true contentment in life.

Envy not the unbeliever
Who has no love for GOD!
He's lost, idolizing himself --
Blind to glory of the LORD.

Let Us See

O Lord, seal it in our minds --
Thy Love for us at Calvary!
In our hearts, shine light upon it,
So we more clearly see

What THOU endured for us there --
THOU, the acceptable Sacrifice!
Let us see Thy nail-pierced hands
And Thy riv'n, flowing side!

Let us see THEE -- greatest LOVE --
THEE -- the Way, the Truth, the Life
WHO laid down Thy power, Thine all
In our stead to suffer and die!

Let us see THEE Conqueror
Over death and the grave --
And seated at GOD's right hand --
Glorious Lord with power to save!

By the mercies of God,

Wonders

Wonders, wonders in the heavens
By the LORD's almighty hand --
Planets, stars, bright sun, and moon
All are wonderments to man.

Wonders -- see majestic mountains;
And, the great expansive plain --
Grasses growing in the sunshine;
Wheat fields with their golden grain.

Wonders, wonders at the seashore --
Lovely sunsets, shells, and sand.
Mighty oceans hold their secrets,
As tides crest and fall again.

Great wonder at newborn infants;
Wonder at babes of the wood --
Little hatchlings within their nests,
Spotted fawn,and playful cub,

O such wonder at the flowers
Springing from brown earth below,
Growing, budding -- to full blossom,
All by Wisdom which GOD owns!

By the mercies of God,

Is It Snowing There?

Snowing, snowing! It's been snowing
Here, on hyacinth and daffodil.
There's been "wafting waves" of snowing
Till I couldn't see the far hill.

Snow is frosting on the white pine
In the edge of the woods;
There's snow atop my peach blossoms
Here, in this neighborhood!

O what a lovely Springtime snowing!
Some flakes, chicken-feather size.
Slowly whirling, gently blowing
Snow, descending from skies.

It lifts on breeze and gracefully turns,
As if sashaying here and there.
Too soon, it will be over,
When the weather turns sunny and fair.

Doubting Thomas'es

Thomas said he would not believe
Jesus was really alive
Till he saw/touched nailprints in HIS hands
And thrust his hand in HIS side.

"Doubting Thomas" is said of him.
Well, did the other disciples believe,
At Mary Magdalene's words -- HE'd arisen?
They believed later -- when they could see

Jesus standing, speaking in their midst.
Hard for mere mortals to believe
That such a thing was possible --
Staggering! -- after what had been seen!

The Lord beaten past recognition;
Blood and water pouring from HIM;
Hearing HIM say, "It is finished";
HIS dying on the cross! His end?

Knowing HE was dead in a tomb
That, against intrusion, was sealed --
How could it be HE was risen?
Against all reasoning, prophecy fulfilled!

Joy! astonishment! When Jesus arrived,
Their doubtings vanished away
Let us ever rejoice! Jesus is risen --
HE's at the right hand of GOD today!

HOLY BIBLE, KJV: Luke 24:6-11 "6 He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee, 7 Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again. 8 And they remembered his words, 9 And returned from the sepulchre, and told all these things unto the eleven, and to all the rest. 10 It was Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and other women that were with them, which told these things unto the apostles. 11 And their words seemed to them as idle tales, and they believed them not. " John 20:18-20 " 18 Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that he had spoken these things unto her. 19 Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. 20 And when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord. " John 24-25 "24 But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. 25 The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe." Romans 8:34 "Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us."

In Thy Way

Let me not walk in my own way,
Nor, in his way or in her way;
Let me not turn unto their way.
O Lord, lead me in Thy Way!

Let me not choose the world's way,
The beguiling of evil's way;
Nor, the "lusting of the flesh" way.
O Lord, guide me in Thy Way!

Let me not walk in the broad way --
The leading only unto death way;
Not in the curs-ed pathway.
O Lord, keep me in Thy Way!

Thanks be to The FATHER

Thanks be to The FATHER
For sharing HIS Son;
For having such love for us --
Here, Jesus was born.

Thanks for the great LOVE
That bid we should live;
The LOVE by which
Jesus' life HE did give

To save from death and sin
Wretched ones like me,
Giving HIMSELF as Sacrifice
Upon Calvary's tree.

Thanks to the FATHER
For Salvation's plan,
By which we are saved --
Not by works of man!

Thanks, that Christ arose --
His works here complete.
Our hope is staid in Christ
WHO did, all our foes, defeat!

By the mercies of God,

What Way?

What Way is Jesus Christ?
HE's The Way of Truth and Life;
The Way of Hope and Joy;
The Way of Peace, not strife;

The only Way of Salvation;
The Way of Light and Love;
The Way of Grace amazing;
The Way reigning above.

The Way -- The Holy WORD;
The Way of guidance here;
The Way of Wisdom's voice;
The Way of Godly cheer;

The Way of Strength unfailing;
The Way WHO guides and shields;
The Way of wonders excelling;
The Way WHO mercifully heals!

HE Lives! HE Lives!

Our Lord lives! Yes, HE is risen --
The LORD of lords, KING of kings!
HE's in Heaven with the FATHER.
What healing His victory brings!

Death and sin, HE defeated!
HE, the perfect Sacrifice
Was LOVE's manifest Expression.
'Twas for fallen ones HE died.

Grace amazing! Hope of the heart;
Sweet Peace within; Covert secure --
Christ arose from death, in power!
HE lives! HE lives! Salvation's sure!

The Story of Grace

Grace. O bless-ed wondrous story!
How it soothes the penitent soul!
It turns that heart unto Hope,
And does so tenderly enfold!

The cost of Grace -- past human measure!
Sin, no mortal could ever erase.
We can't undo one ill we've done.
Jesus paid the full price of Grace.

He gave His very life and blood
To wholly wash us spotless - clean.
Jesus -- the Way, the Truth, the Life
Gave Himself, GOD's own to redeem.

Praise O Soul

Praise, O soul, your heavenly FATHER!
Humbly, thank HIM for His Grace!
Reverently, adore the Name
Of GOD present-every-place!

Unparalleled is His Love!
GOD is wonderful! -- rejoice!
Is the Gospel precious to you?
Then, gladly lift up your voice!

See GOD's mercies, as you recall
Days and hours already gone.
Look ahead -- HE lights the pathway!
Praise HIM as you journey on!

Stop Treading; Trust GOD

As if treading, treading water,
We strive so hard not to sink
Beneath such burdens we know --
Trusting selves too much, I think.

O to first seek GOD's guidance
And HIS Light to rightly see!
To trust HIM as all our strength,
Confessing to HIM all our need!

HE hears prayer! Do we doubt it?
HE is merciful! Isn't it plain?
HE is LOVE, full of Grace, forgiving!
Give GOD thanks! Praise HIS Name!

Out of Sync

Is it time for Easter already?
Did I but blink my eyes --
Has Winter's deep cold really gone?
Why, at daffodils, such surprise?

I recall years of anticipations.
I gladly looked to the holidays,
Having my mind's calendar
Attuned to those always.

When did I get so old and slow
That I'm O so out of time?
It seems I straggle in all of this
Passage and changing of clime.

Too busy, too focused on this or that!
In-the-minute things, I attend.
Ah, but the seasons rush on, rush on
Till the day Nature shall end!

A Thief Forgiven

Forgiveness! Did the penitent feel it? --
On hearing Jesus' words that day,
As they were hanging on the cross
And to him the Lord did say --

"Today shalt thou be with me
In paradise."
Surely, to him Hope was given!
Yet, both of the thieves on the cross
Had railed on the Lord of Heaven.

"Justly ... we receive the due reward of our deeds"
The penitent thief confessed.
"When thou comest into thy kingdom",
"Lord, remember me" -- his request.

"If thou be Christ, save thyself and us" --
Demanding words, the other thief said.
"Dost not thou fear GOD?" asked the penitent;
For, they too were condemned to death.

With two justly condemned malefactors,
Our Lord was hanged to die.
How could this be? HE'd done no wrong!
To atone for our sins, HE became Sacrifice.

HE gave His very life and blood
To redeem His people to the FATHER on high.
HE fulfilled everything HE came to do.
All GOD's chosen people, HE justified!

by mercies of GOD,
