Is this Goodbye, Maynard?

Zeke and Maynard the Mini Mallard,
They were named when but hatchlings.
But, I'm quite decided they're females,
Though I've no proof - exacting.

Abby's plan might have worked --
The ducks were gone, it seemed.
One went missing just last week;
And, the other sad one remained.

Then, only two mornings ago,
Mini-Mallard, Maynard - - gone from sight!
And, she'd cozied up near to the dogs,
Where they slept in carport at night.
Well, we saw no tell-tale feathers - -
Not a sign of fowl play around - -
Not one thing gave us a clue.
Perhaps, Maynard was northbound.

Hmmm. No, that proved not the case;
Charles saw one duck at pond near barn.
Then, as if by way of apology,
She showed up here this very morn.

O She's dibbled and she's dabbled
In edge of water in kiddie pool.
She whacks its hard plastic edges,
As she plays there in the cool.

The feed up here is the draw, you see.
It's so handy; and, there she stands
Shoveling it up, while hens can but peck.
She returned to join in feasting again.

Still, it's mallards' nature to fly.
I think Abby was correct to say,
"Don't worry, Pops. We've got a plan --
When they grow up, they'll fly away!"

..........into the sunset. :)

Of the LORD our GOD

There, a cloud up in the sky;
There, a swallow winging by;
There, an ant traversing ground;
There, a brooklet with lilting sound;
There, corn growing strong and tall - -
The LORD GOD made them all!

There, a baby coos and plays;
There, it's Mommy faithful stays;
There, at work, a toiling Dad;
And, there, a thankful family glad
For all blessings they have had - -
These all, blessed of the LORD!

There, a rose with lovely bloom.
There, bumblebees hover and drone.
There, waving sea of grasses grown.
There, a beehive and honeycomb.
Creation's tapestry is Masterfully sewn - -
All, works of the LORD our GOD!

By the mercies of God,

GOD is the LORD our GOD

HOLY BIBLE, KJV, Exodus 16:12 "I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel: speak unto them, saying, At even ye shall eat flesh, and in the morning ye shall be filled with bread; and ye shall know that I am the LORD your God." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GOD is the LORD our GOD --
At evening, when we consume meat;
At morning, while we savor bread;
At noontime, as we sit for a meal;
Mid-morning, as we munch an apple;
During afternoon, when we have a snack;
When delicious aromas surround us!
GOD is GOD; and, makes seeds sprout,
Strengthens stems and stalks,
Makes plants to flower and give fruit.
HE is GOD, the giver of harvests;
GOD is both Provider and Sustainer;
GOD is merciful and kind;
GOD is ever-present, nowhere absent - -
forever faithful;
GOD never forsakes His children!
GOD is the LORD our GOD and HE shall be GOD forevermore!
Then, when ought we be thankful to HIM? Always/forevermore!

We're so blessed of the fullness and by the mercies of GOD!

By the mercies of God,

For Mercies Known

What blessed land has ever been
Upon this earth like where we've lived?
What people have known such liberty?
What places, with abundance to give?

A land of milk and honey, it seems --
Where oceans of wheat and corn have grown;
Great forested mountains, and lively streams;
Lush plains with cattle lowing.

And, have we thanked HIM, as we scanned
His Creation so touched with Grace?
Have we thanked HIM as we've moved
Through cities with bustling pace?

Have we welcomed His rains, His clouds?
Aren't we creatures of complaint?
O GOD forbid that HE remove from us!
For mercies known, praise His NAME!

By the mercies of God,

A Particular Pilgrim

Pilgrim fits the one seeking Peace --
The wayfarer looking toward Home;
It fits one traveling through life,
Sojourning here till his walk is done.

Pilgrim fits the longing soul
Who yearns to see his Savior Christ.
It fits the one who is happiest
Living a faithful servant's life.

Such pilgrim looks for better to come,
His heart trusting in the LORD
To bring him through this wilderness
To land of perfect peace and joy.

By the mercies of God,

Unto Peace

Sometimes, cares and pain can press
Down upon us, harshly and sore;
And, the more we try to lift ourselves up,
We're but burdened all the more.

There are times we can but yield
Every care unto the LORD;
And, we confess our helplessness
And seek comfort of His WORD.

"All to THEE"; "Into Thy Hands",
We breathe upon the air -
Words of faith in GOD's strength - -
Confessions at Grace's bower.

There, to find the weight much lighter - -
There, to know the touch of GOD
Upon the heart, upon the spirit - -
To find Peace, given of the Lord!

By the mercies of God,

GOD Is

Shield and Buckler; Guard and Guide;
Nail in a sure place, Covert -- to hide;
Our Righteousness, Hope, and Peace;
LOVE with perfect faithfulness;

TRUTH irrefutable; the WAY and the LIFE;
Of every good gift, GOD is Supply;
Ruler of the sun, the wind, and the wave;
Victor o'er sin and death and the grave;

Creator; Builder and Strength of mountains;
Living Water; Filler of fountains;
LIGHT! Maker of galaxies, planets, stars,
Sun, and moon in heavens afar;

Creator of plants wonderful good,
Grains for bread - - plants for food
And flowers that brighten our world,
And trees in the forest, and ferns unfurled;

Crowned with glory, the Source of joy;
Omnipotent, all His will to employ;
Omniscient, eternal, Beginning and End;
Verily GOD WHO paid for our sins!

Our Strength, our Healing; HE gives us breath;
In HIM, we live and move. His Name, confess!
GOD the FATHER, GOD the Son,
GOD the HOLY SPIRIT - - GOD -THREE-in-ONE!

Thanks be to GOD for life and all good gifts!
Praises to His Name for every blessing!

By the mercies of God,

Calico's Predation

A raucous commotion outside was astir --
Birds quite loudly protesting, near.
I stepped outside. What was it about?
Blue Jays were greatly alarmed, no doubt.

They squawked, flitted, threatened some more.
I sought to determine their enemy- obscure;
There! Just beneath them at edge of drive,
Near sedum growth, Calico Cat I spied.

She was sneaking, ready to pounce.
I thought she'd found a low nest, perhaps.
I took up the water hose, started to spray
Just at the moment she snatched her prey --

A young blue jay that had fallen in flight,
Or from nest in tree down to its plight.
I sprayed at the cat as she ran 'neath my van,
Nothing gained; for, down side yard she ran!

Jays hotly pursued, crying with distress.
It made me to feel very sad, I confess.
What things we see in wildlings' world!
Joys of life, and death -- unfurled!

Nature at both its best and its worst.
Fledglings mature if not eaten first.
Beautiful creatures can become prey.
Cats truly have predatory sway.

living, moving, breathing, observing (sometimes sadly) --

By the mercies of God,
