Light Brigades

Are they solar powered?
Speaking of lightning bugs, that is.
Have they nuclear substance?
GOD designed and powers this

Show of thousands, multiplied,
Of tiny mobile lights,
Blinking on and off again - -
Softening graces at night/

Certainly, not of cars, I speak,
But of teeny lights 'round hedges - -
Blinks of light both near and far - -
Some at window ledges;

And, above the grass and ground,
Where barefoot children run;
There, where reach up little hands
To catch another one.

Fireflies or lightning bugs - -
Call these wonders what you will.
This fact yet holds very true - -
These light brigades, we welcome still!

Another Day is Done

The fiery orb has done its do
In an arc across this land;
Now it touches west horizon - -
All by GOD's command.

Massive, red, it sinks away
Behind the mountain peaks,
While rising over other lands,
Where new morning breaks.

In other places, people stand
And view the rising sun,
As I watch its setting here.
Another day is done.

By the mercies of God,

The Storm

Lightning flashed above dark clouds;
And, then, began hard-driving rain,
Before we came upon an accident scene - -
Someone had wrecked, it was plain.

With traffic backed up ahead of us,
I'd eased our vehicle to a stop,
And watched fitful sheets of rain
Sweep down, scouring blacktop.

Looked like a bad storm to me - -
Leaves/debris fell; trees bent and swayed.
I peered ahead toward the wreckage,
And, impotent to help, I prayed.

I prayed, LORD bless whoever wrecked;
Bless rescue workers in the storm;
Bless all who're out in the weather;
Bless family and loved ones at home.

I'm wondering still about the wreck --
Looked like a work truck, mangled, torn;
Wondering, did that driver survive;
And, was it caused by the storm.

I must confess, we were held us safe
While violent weather encircled us 'round.
How merciful GOD is! How good and kind!
Great deliverance in HIM is found!

Firefly Show

O tiny little firefly,
Who blinks, going along,
Your light will shine more brightly,
When sets the evening sun.

Your golden sparks seem dim
Near evening primrose bloom,
As dusk settles in about us;
As rises the distant moon.

Red, the western horizon;
The sun is sinking low.
Comes the darkness of the night
And dazzling firefly show!

With THY Good

That I gladly embrace Thy truths;
That good things fill my thought - -
Cleanse my heart O LORD.
Let me serve THEE as I ought.

With things pure, honest, lovely - -
Let my mind be filled today - -
With things just, things of virtue,
Psalms, prayers, anthems of praise.

That my spirit center upon THEE - -
Not on earth's sad, lowly plain - -
Fill my heart O Holy Spirit,
With Thy good, again. Again!
______________________

HOLY BIBLE, KJV, Philippians 4:8
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Never Alone

Never alone, anywhere, any time!
Never alone, never forsaken!
Not when bitter trials come;
Not when my heart is aching - -

Not when things seem but loss;
Not when gray o'erspreads the sky;
Not though man is impotent;
Not in times I can but cry - -

Never alone! For, GOD is with me - -
Wherever I am; wherever I go;
Never alone! GOD is my comfort;
HE is strength and peace to my soul!

By the mercies of God,

Bless, Uphold and Keep Me

That I stand with faith in THEE LORD;
That my fight be counted good;
That I walk here circumspectly - -
Bless me, bless me if THOU would.

That I look to THEE, in trials;
That I recall Thy mercies past;
That I trust THEE o'er all else, LORD,
Hold my spirit firm and fast!

LORD, please guide and guard and shield me,
Being all my strength and stay!
Keep me safe here on life's journey;
Bring me to Thy perfect Day!

I Wakened to Raindrops

I wakened to raindrops clinging to limbs
And saw my garden refreshed by drink.
I wakened to sunshine's light rose color
Brightening woodland's underneath.

I wakened to think, "truly a blessing! - -
Rain sent to us from GOD's own hand."
HIS soft showers sent during night
Refresh more than best efforts of man.

Unto THEE, LORD - - praise and thanksgiving!
All from THEE - - blessings we've known - -
Wonders of Thy power and wisdom!
Thanks unto THEE for mercies shown!

Where Mountains Touch the Sky

Like mountains reaching, touching sky,
Heavenward, let my spirit fly
For rest within a peaceful plain
Beyond sorrows of cumb'ring pain;

And, let my thought too rise above
To dwell upon GOD's wondrous love
In that place where naught can steal
Joy of heart and balm that heals - -

There, where cares just sweep away - -
Where one turns t'ward brighter Day
There, where mountains touch the sky
Above the world, uplifted high!

By the mercies of God,
