CHRIST our HOPE
O Living HOPE unassailable:
CHRIST -- The Resurrection, indeed:
Sure Anchor -- fixed, immovable,
Thy protection, we ever need!
THOU art Shield and Buckler to us,
When dangers arise and affright.
Though dark discouragements come,
THOU art the Truth, the Way, the Light;
And, to us, the unfailing Haven --
The Cleft wherein we may hide
Completely safe by Thy power,
Though threat and storm betide.
O what comfort is found in Thy Word:
"After ye believed, ye were sealed
With that holy Spirit of promise" -- "the earnest
Of our inheritance", till it be fulfilled!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
HOLY BIBLE, KJV, Ephesians 1:12-14
"12 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.
13 In whom ye also trusted , after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation:
in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession,
unto the praise of his glory."
What Path
What path shall I daily follow?
The expansive one reaching before?
The one with throngs beckoning?
Or, seek GOD! HIS wisdom, implore!
What personal goal ought I attain to?
One of affluence, with status high,
One of high-browing at others,
Looking away, and passing on by?
Would I refuse to be ruled in any way?
Are my opinions steadfast and sure?
Can the world's offerings truly fulfill?
Can its pleasures really endure?
O let me follow the perfect Way:
The Way of humility and peace,
The Way of willingly serving others,
The Way of the spirit's release --
In Christ Who uplifts during troubles:
To know, in serving, wondrous joy.
To confess GOD excels all others!
Almighty power is HIS to employ!
Would I have excellence of spirit?
Or, do I conform to worldly sway?
O lead me in the straight and narrow --
GOD forbid that I walk the selfish way!
By the mercies of God,
Joy of Life
THOU, our Hope, WHO gives us joy,
WHO speaks "Be still" unto our storms
And calms the waters of our souls;
WHO hast all our sorrows borne;
Holy Comforter of hearts;
Praises for blessings of Love!
Praises for joy THOU doth impart!
Praises, dear FATHER above!
We extol Thy Name O GOD,
THOU the Truth, the Life, the Way ---
Giver of peace and hope and joy.
Our hearts rejoice in THEE today!
Plain Language
GOD the Owner and Lender of Wisdom
Speaks clearly to the humblest man;
For, HIS language is to the heart.
To the simple, HE can make things plain.
HE communicates and the deaf can hear;
HE gives enlightenment to blind.
HE speaks on behalf of the mute;
Wonderful LORD, loving and kind!
Shouldn't we take the utmost care
To be kind to those we meet,
Remembering our Lord's humility
In washing His disciples' feet?
Then, let our words be clear and plain
To fellow servants humble and mild;
Plain, to those of high degree
And simple enough for a child.
By the mercies of God,
Peering Through a Glass
As through a glass, we see in part,
Desiring to have a better view;
Yet, never entered into man's heart,
What GOD has prepared for me and you.
We're greatly blessed with faith and hope,
Our hearts sustained by GOD's Love.
At times HE lifts us o'er our cares,
Giving us foretastes of Heav'n above.
A little while longer we must wait;
Our eyes, beclouded, still a while;
But, soon the Lord will come again;
And, we'll know HIM and His smile!
By mercies of GOD,
1 Corinthians 2:9
But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into
the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
1 Corinthians 13:12
For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face:
now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
Gift of Awe
What is this within our hearts:
This astonishment at GOD
And HIS astounding works?
I call it the gift of awe.
Do the plants and beasts have hearts
To revere, to consider GOD?
It's certain, natural life HE gives
Makes them flourish here on sod.
A special gift HE's given to us,
This spiritual gift to see
HE is the GOD Astounding,
Instiller of awe in you and me!
Amicalola Wonders
[Am-uh-kuh-low-la]
We walked beside the tumbling waters,
Thund'ring waters of mountainside,
Enjoying Amicalola Falls,
On a path through areas trilliums hide,
'Neath giant poplars, near great boulders,
Bathed in mists and morning's chill.
We walked slowly, our stops frequent,
To absorb her scenes that thrill:
Mosses clinging to the rocks
On heights of opposing wall
Of mountain --- lush green fountains
With waters springing to greater Fall;
Massive logs, some laying across
The roaring, churning underneath.
I'd dare not use one for a "foot log",
Lacking agility in my feet.
So, I gazed and went some farther;
And, told my son, "it's far enough".
My legs to the point of wobbling.
We declined her steeper bluffs;
We opted to drive to the very top,
Where there's a boardwalk to stand upon,
At edge of mountain, over the ledge,
Where, breaks, Amicalola's song.
A perfect place for meditation,
Touched by Amicalola's strength,
Over her waters designed for wonder,
I lingered a while to think;
And, there, scanned the panorama
As far as mortal eye could see - - -
The beautiful blue of the heavens,
And Blue Ridge Mountains before me.
LIGHT
For every task, in every trial,
Light is needed for the way.
We need Light for understanding,
To make wise choices every day:
Light revealing, Light to guide us
Away from things that may harm;
Light upon the path before us;
And, within, our hearts to warm.
O Holy LIGHT, Eternal LOVE,
Thank you for Thy gifts today,
For shining down, around, within us,
THOU, the Truth, the Light, the Way!
By mercies of GOD,
In HIS Time
In GOD's time; yes, in HIS time
HE brings trials to an end.
In faith, anticipate HIS time,
When HE'll lift the clouds again!
So, then trust; O children, trust!
Cling to promises of GOD.
Your heart's sincere desires, HE hears;
HE ever looks on you with Love.
Then, patiently await HIS time,
HIS perfect time for your relief.
HE blesses daily, here and now!
Rejoice O soul; HIS Love is free!
Let Faith Arise
O burdened child, seek the LORD;
Confess to HIM your grief;
Tell HIM of your heart-felt pain;
HE gives wonderful relief.
In bower of prayer, just be still;
Let faith arise; and, simply wait.
Wait, trusting HIS perfect will;
Wholly trust the GOD of Grace.
If HIS answer is held in silence,
May HIS Light, within you, shine.
Doesn't Hope dwell within you,
Lending patience for such times?
Lay down self-sufficient thoughts;
Surrender every prideful claim;
And, pray: "LORD,Thy will be done;
All praises be unto Thy Name!"
By the mercies of God,
Voice in Stillness
What is this voice in stillness
That urges my heart so?
Is it not the voice of Wisdom,
Entreating me as I go,
Reminding me that GOD is LOVE,
That HE is guide and shield,
That HIS WAY is always best;
That, perfect is HIS will;
That, life is absolutely of HIM,
As is hope and peace and faith,
As is redemption by Jesus' blood,
As is every gift of Grace.
O Holy Spirit, please speak on;
Continue to remind, I pray.
Entreat; draw me nearer THEE.
Direct my heart today.
By the mercies of God,
Little Songbird
O little songbird in the meadow,
What is center of your praise?
Why do you, so joyous, live?
Why, so beautiful, your lays?
We know that the LORD made you
With your lovely trilling voice;
And, HE gave us ears to hear
As you perch there and rejoice.
Trill on, sing on little songbird.
Let your joyful praises ring.
GOD see us; HE sees the sparrow.
Is this the reason you sing?
By the mercies of God,
Whisper Wings
On whisper wings, a gnat can fly,
Sail over me, around, or by,
So tiny, insignificant;
Yet, what a gift it has been lent:
Not by might, not by brawn,
It easily sails the air, thereon.
And, I, a giant compared to him,
Can only fly if on a whim
I soar in mind across the plain,
Over mountains, through the rain,
Wingless, only borne in thought,
Finding many wonders sought.
Here, a river; there, the sea
And the white cliffs beneath me;
O I'm not hindered by the weather;
I soar on sans wing or feather
To the Arctic regions where
Northern lights shine so fair;
To lands of mystery and beasts,
Where, at night, hyenas feast.
From anywhere, I can alight,
In daytime or in darkest night.
My mind can peruse or soar
Wonders here, there, and o'er.
So, let the little gnat fly on.
I'll stay grounded here at home.
Yes, let him whisper-winged be.
I like the life GOD gave to me.
By the mercies of God,
Healing of Thy Wings
O LORD with voice and touch of healing,
How we thank YOU for Thy Grace!
How we thank YOU for Thy mercies ---
For lovingkindnesses today!
We confess need for constant healing:
Constant replenishing of cells;
Constant supply of strength from YOU;
Thy Spirit, for stronger faith as well.
LORD, YOU know all about our frailties!
YOU have all knowledge of our ails.
YOU know the very depths of suffering!
YOURS is the power to make well.
We come with thankful hearts, yet needy.
We see many with ills that assail.
Please strengthen and heal dear ones
Who're suffering with bodies frail.
We, our families, neighbors, friends,
Paupers, priests, and kings
Live only by Thy Love and mercies.
All need healing of Thy wings!
by mercies of GOD,
For Thine in Declining Years
O LORD attend the precious hearts
Of Thine in declining years.
Living HOPE, please comfort them.
Guard their minds from fears.
Speak sweet peace unto their hearts.
As if infants, these, enwrap;
Keep them ever in Thine arms,
Ever safe in mercy's lap.
O LOVE that will not let them go,
Bear them through the valley deep.
Guard against all looming threats;
Land them in Thy perfect Peace.
Amen
Wonderful Water
Vapors, condensing, gathering,
Clouding,
Misting, bedew-ing, raining,
Freezing, sleeting, snowing,
Melting, puddling, running,
Ponding, free flowing,
Seeping, trickling, tumbling, racing,
Crashing, thundering, flooding,
Cascading, leaping, rising to heights,
Sinking to depths to rise again,
Washing ashore in white foam,
Refreshing, cleansing,
Drink to paupers and kings,
Symbolic grave to GOD's people,
Bearer of ships and submarines,
Home to creatures of fin and shell;
Sustainer of barrier reefs,
Playground of whales,
Separator of continents - - -
Water - - - rain, springs, lakes, and seas!
Wonderful Water! How could all its worth be told?
Thankful to GOD for blessings of water,
By the mercies of God,
Mercies Rain
Gone, the clouds! The sky is bright.
The sun sends forth its welcomed light.
Heavy mists have lifted away;
Gone, the trials of yesterday.
And, now we walk with lighter step,
By strength renewed when we slept.
Blessings! Blessings from GOD's hand
Are showered upon us of this land.
Souls, consider how we're blessed;
GOD is wonderful, confess!
Let's not receive this day as vain.
His mercies rain again, again!
By the mercies of God,
