1Sa 28:22 ...let me set a morsel of bread before thee; and eat, that thou mayest have strength, when thou goest on thy way.

Jealousy #3

Proverbs 27:4 - Wrath is cruel, and anger is outrageous; but who is able to stand before envy?

Jealousy is especially evident among little children. They are still new to the world so they are not aware of what is happening. They see another child who has something they want, they immediately begin to say, “why can’t have that? It just isn’t fair!” You can see it all over their face. The same is true for adults as well. However, we’ve just had a few more years of seasoning under our belts so we know how to hide it a little better.

Envy is a deadly poison. It affects everything we do or say. Goodness, excellence, beauty and greatness are all intolerable; they must not be permitted to exist in the world. “If I can’t have it, then no one else can either,” is what most of us feel. Jealousy makes our lives mean, narrow and shabby. It takes the joy, beauty and goodness and generosity out of our life. We feel that we must measure ourselves against all that we know we cannot be. Jealousy hides its face. It makes us think that we are better than everyone else. Jealousy is a liar. It promises goodness, success, beauty, excellence and greatness, but in all actuality it gathers them all in its hands and runs out the back door and leaves people cold, lonely, angry, and indifferent to all of the goodness that this world has to offer.
