Poor and Afflicted Lord are Thine

Luke 4:18 - The Spirit of the Lord [is] upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

Luke 4:19 - To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

Poor and Afflicted

Poor and afflicted, Lord are Thine, Among the great unfit to shine, But tho the world may think is strange, they would not with the world exchange;

Poor and afflicted, yet they trust In God, the gracious, wise and just; For the He deigns this lot to choose, Nor would they dare His will refuse.

And while they walk the thorny way, They’re often heard to sight and say, “Dear Savior, come, O quickly come And take They mourning pilgrims home.”

Poor and afflicted, yet ere long, They’ll join the bright celestial throne. And all their suff’rings then shall close, And heaven afford them sweet repose.

Amen

The Child of Grace
Charles Wesley 1703-1788

How happy’s every child of grace, that feels his sins forgiven! “This earth,” he cries, “is not my place, I seek a home in heaven.”

A country far from mortal sight, Yet oh! Faith I see, The land of rest, the saint’s delight, A heaven prepared for me.

O what a blessed hope is ours, While here on earth we stay! We more that taste the heavenly powers, And antedate that day;

We feel the resurrection near, Our life in Christ concealed; And with His glorious presence here Our longing hearts are filled.

When He shall more of heaven bestow, And bid my soul remove, and let my trembling spirit go, To meet the God I love,

With rapturous awe on Him I’ll gaze, Who died to set me free, And sing and shout redeeming grace In vast eternity.

Amen
