Under clear skies, wind from the northwest at eight mph, with the temperature at 46 degrees.

"For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren." (Romans 8:29)

The first thing I would like to notice in this verse is how it begins. The first two words are (For Whom) As we understand this word (For) it carries the thought of because of. This refers us back to verse 28 dealing with the all things that work together for his purpose. Now Paul is telling us the reason why they work together. Because whom he did foreknow. Now we know that God knows all things, but in the sense of this verse he did not foreknow all things. This foreknowledge is not dealing with God`s complete knowledge, but his foreknowledge of to whom, not things. This foreknowledge is speaking of a special relationship that God has with his people, it embraces an intimate relationship that he has with someone that he does not have with others. Everyone of these that are embraced in his foreknowledge he also did predestinate. Notice that predestination here also does not embrace things, but only those that he foreknew. Here again I am getting to lengthy for a devotion so maybe this will give us an ideal of how foreknowledge and the word predestinate is used in the scriptures.
