"Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live." (John 5:25)

It is amazing to me to see those that realize that a dead person can not see, can not think, can not act, yet still hold to the position that they can accept Christ, believe in Christ and openly confess that Jesus is their Saviour and get life. Here in this text this morning man is passive, but God is active. These that will hear is not hearing the preacher, but the voice of the Son of God. Jesus speaks, it comes to pass, Jesus speaking and they that are dead are given life, he speaks and the blind see, the lepers are cleansed and the lame walk. These that Jesus speaks to in this verse is dead in sin. The dead is dead, they are dead to the things of God, but the Lord speaks, and the life giving voice gives life. Just as Jesus spoke and said Lazarus come forth, he came forth still wrapped in his grave clothes yet when he came forth he had life, but was still bound. Jesus told his disciples, to loose him and let him go. This man was still bound until the grave clothes came off. You see life always comes before action.
