Sister Flossie Alice Gross
|
Sister Alice was born on December 3, 1914 in Lilly, West Virginia, the oldest of eight; seven girls and one boy. She started going to church as a young child. The local Primitive Baptist Church held services once a month.
Raised on a farm, the family grew all the food they ate plus pastures and hay for the cows and work horses. She enjoyed milk from the cows and eggs from the chickens. Married in 1938, they were blessed with four daughters and one son. One daughter died in infancy. She now has 14 grandchildren
and 23 great grandchildren. Sis. Alice and family moved to Laramie, WY in 1955 and to Ft Collins, CO in 1957. Her husband passed away in 1985 after 47 years of marriage. Sis. Alice's hobbies are gardening, reading, and making quilts. Everyone of her children grandchildren and grandchildren have at least one of her quilts. We truly love this precious sister and lovely lady!

Sister Lloyl Matthews is a retired schoolteacher who was born in Waco, Texas on November 2, 1930 to Lloyd and Irma Martin. Her brother, John William gave her the nickname of "Doll". (She calls him "Jay"). The two children spent all their time together. In her words, "We were best buddies and still are".
After graduating from Alvarado High School in Alvarado, Texas, Lloyl earned her BA in education at the University of Texas and her honors MBA at the University of New Orleans. She was united in matrimony with John Young Matthews on October 10, 1953. Their marriage was blessed with two beautiful daughters, Kathy and Patricia. Lloyl reports she enjoyed her daughters as "delightful" and still thinks that of them today. In addition, she now has six wonderful grandchildren, Mackenzie, Gavin, Derek, Wyatt and Riley, who call her "Granny".
Before retiring, Lloyl worked for the Department of Denfense Schools in Aschaffenburg, Germany. She loves to travel and loves people. A truly faithful member of Friendship Primitive Baptist Church, she also enjoys reading, hiking, exercising, working with stained glass and listening to music. This delightful lady is an inspiration to all of us and a perfect example of how to have more birthdays without aging!
