Each of us has two characters: one without, one within.
What we are on the inside - what God sees when He looks at us - is what we truly are. It has been said that our true character is expressed by how we live and act when we are totally alone. This is when we are not attempting to impress anyone. We are most likely to be our true self without any influences from external sources. We can best measure our character by how honest we are when no one is looking at us.
The Spirit of God indwells every child of God, influencing what we are within. That Spirit is placed within the child of God for a reason. We are to utilize the powers of that Spirit by maintaining an active relationship with it. To ignore the Spirit within is to question, doubt or distrust God. But the Spirit of God within us tells us to trust and obey, believe and love and honor God.
